Having over 15 years experience in the design and advertising field, I started my career in design studios after graduating with honours from The Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto.
As a designer at these studios, one took the jobs from initial client presentation right through to dealing with the printers. An extremely good overall education. Clients ranged from Mirvish Productions, Canadian Stage Company, Royal Conservatory of Music, Wellington Brewery, OysterBoy to corporate such as Canon, Laurentian Mutual Funds, York University, The Bodyshop and CIBC.
After seven years working full-time, I started my own design studio, Four Corners Communications, which I ran for several years. In the last few years, with part-time studies, I obtained an BA from UofT and spent a year living in Berlin.
Upon my return I gravitated to freelancing in the advertising world with contracts at major agencies throughout the city such as Grip Limited, DraftFCB, Interbrand, Leo Burnett, Grey Advertising, and BIMM Communications, to name a few.
Since 2005 I’ve worked full-time at Direct Antidote (now called Squareknot), moved on to full-time as a digital/print designer at Venture Communications. With the digital department in the now-closed Toronto office, I worked closely with the developers to hone my digital skills. Not one to sit idle, I’ve obtained certification in User Experience Design and have now moved completely into the digital world working in an agile environment with developer teams at RSA Canada in their Digital Lab.
Excellent skills in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat (CC latest versions);
And for all those presentations and RFPS, I‘ve used Powerpoint, Keynote, Word and Excel.
Good working knowledge of HTML and CSS (used to code websites, but leaving the heavy lifting to the pros now).
Sketch, Balsamiq and InVision are my new go-to tools.
Past experience with Dreamweaver and good understanding of Flash, and grew up on QuarkXpress.
I’ve also worked with project-management software such as Basecamp and WorkZone. Currently using Atlassian's Jira and Confluence.
Websites, microsites, online B2B tools, RWD, mobile/tablet, apps, brand guidelines, e-mails, e-newsletters, banner ads, past experience with e-books and interactive pdfs.
Wireframes, site maps, card sorting, user flows, personas, journey maps, prototyping, visual design, strategy, and storyboarding.
Branding, brochures, catalogues, annual reports, collateral, packaging, logos, magazine design/layout and newspaper ads, book cover design and typesetting. Actually over the years I’ve touched upon just about everything in print.
While working in print I was very experienced with taking my files to final print-ready. Current I'm working with development teams in an agile environment.
Work from client brief to final designs with very strong production skills. I enjoy the challenges of presenting content in a clear, logical manner while being visually engaging and strategically on target.
Also, I‘m highly organized both in my personal workspace and within the overall process. A team player with a proactive attitude, who can also work very effectively “running the ship” alone. I strongly believe everyone who touches a project is important as great ideas are useless if you don‘t have the right people to execute the job.
An arts enthusiast (theatre, dance, fine art, literature) with soft spot for up-and-coming new bands (including seven years of attending the SXSW music festival in Austin). A lover of learning, constantly attending evening courses and workshops and have a rather extensive library of books. But also enjoying the pleasure of paddling a canoe, hiking a mountain, riding a horse, animals in general. A definite mix of downtown urbanite, outdoor adventurist and world traveller.
